A trader of NFTs, who goes by the Ethereum username b3hodlr.eth, has experienced a significant financial setback as a result of falling victim to a phishing attack. The breach, identified by blockchain security platform PeckShieldAlert and cryptocurrency investigator ZachXBT, led to the loss of approximately 356.7 $wstETH, valued at around $1.26 million.
The perpetrator behind this attack is known as Fake_Phishing187019. This phishing scam resulted in the unauthorized transfer of $wstETH tokens from b3hodlr.eth’s wallet. This incident underscores the growing complexity and frequency of phishing attacks in the cryptocurrency industry.
In a related development, another NFT trader recently suffered losses of over $145,000 in Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collectibles. On May 8, a phishing attack led to the transfer of three BAYC NFTs to a malicious actor known as Pink Drainer. The stolen NFTs include BAYC 7531, BAYC 6736, and BAYC 2100.
The sequence of events began at 17:47 UTC on May 8, when BAYC 7531 was sent from tatis.eth to the phishing account. Shortly after, BAYC 6736 and BAYC 2100 were also transferred to the same address. Pink Drainer successfully sold the three NFTs on prominent NFT platforms Seaport and Blur, earning 48.5 ETH, which amounts to $145,000.
This latest incident is part of a series of illicit activities by the same group of hackers. In December 2023, they were responsible for the theft of Chainlink (LINK) tokens valued at $4.4 million. By employing deceptive strategies, they managed to deceive users into authorizing transactions related to the “IncreaseAllowance” function, resulting in losses totaling 275,700 LINK.
